World Environment Day Tomorrow

Green Economy: Does it Include you?

That’s this year’s theme for tomorrow’s World Environment Day (WED). Do you believe it includes you? Maybe if you’re 90 years young, the idea of Green might strike you as hippie talk. For the rest of us, thinking about a green economy is thinking about our future. Bouncing back from a global financial crisis is the future for the world’s economy. Why not make it Green?

It would be great to join in on the Green discussion across the world. A Green economy includes all of us. We should show that talking sustainable and talking green is not just hippie talk.  We can raise awareness or join in on environmental cleanups. It doesn’t matter how you do it.. Just go out and be Green on WED!

World Environment Day: Are you in?

Today I wanted to tell everyone that World Environment Day is quickly approaching. On Jun 5 people from all over the world will be participating in World Environment Day. As the United Nations puts it:

World Environment Day is also a day for people from all walks of life
to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter
outlook for themselves and future generations

The whole world’s doing it and so should you. So what are you going to be doing on World Environment Day?

Get Ready for Rio+20

I am excited to join the discussion on sustainable, green, and clean energy at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (or simply Rio+20) starting this June 20.

For those of you who want to know what Rio+20 is, I’ll be giving you all a brief summary

Thousands of participants from governments, the private sector, NGOs and other stakeholders will be gathering at Rio de Janeiro to push for sustainable development across the world. They are addressing two themes at the conference

(a) a green economy in the context of sustainable development poverty eradication
and (b) the institutional framework for sustainable development

In other words, world members are getting together to make the world go green through sustainable development which, if all goes according to plan, will eradicate poverty and help developing nations dig out of that grave called poverty.

Today I will be starting the 21 day countdown until we talk sustainable at Rio+20. I encourage all readers to take a moment and think about all the issues that the world needs to discuss in order to start this Green Clean Revolution

Here are critical issues that will be tackled at Rio+20

Machine Mindz

Charlie Chaplin in The Great Dictator

Bonjour tout le monde. Or Hello everyone. You’re probably wondering why this blog is titled Machine Mindz. When I first started contemplating what type of website I would make It took me a few nights to sleep on it. If you ever visit my twitter page my bio will tell you that I enjoy talking about sustainable energy, innovation, and life. I knew that my blog had to be about these three things and not a memoir of me rambling on about my life ad nauseum (no offense to those of you who do that). So then for a blog title. Which brings me to the film The Great Dictator. If you thought the above picture depicted Adolf Hitler, you’re not far off. Charlie Chaplin was Adenoid Hynkel in this awkward comedy. He depicted Adolf Hitler which is why there is a very close resemblance you see above. Now I am not going to go into a film review of this at the moment (don’t worry I will soon) but I will tell you what made the light bulb flash over my head. Towards the end of the film Chaplin broke out of character and gave a memorable speech, but it was these words that stuck with me :

The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish. Soldiers! Don’t give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you, enslave you; who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel! Who drill you, diet you, treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men – machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines, you are not cattle, you are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don’t hate! Only the unloved hate; the unloved and the unnatural

So Machine Mindz is a play on this speech, spelled with a z to show the rebellion of the words machine minds. So I will be writing about the paradigm shift of the twenty first century, how the politics of America and the world really affect its citizens and how we should give the idea of sustainable energy a thought and all the interesting things life lets us enjoy. I hope everyone will come to enjoy this blog. Remember we are not machine men or women, with machine minds and machine hearts. We all have the love of humanity, something machines cannot comprehend.
